Artist Bio
David Henry is a Nashville-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, recording producer, and performer whose career bridges classical music, contemporary songwriting, and live performance. Beginning his professional orchestral career as a cellist at age 13, Henry later expanded into a wide range of instruments, including violin, viola, bass, mandolin, keyboards, and vocals. As a high school senior, he won the Macon Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, performing Gabriel Fauré's Élégie with the orchestra.
For close to 20 years, Henry owned and operated True Tone Recording Studio in Nashville, working as a producer, recording engineer, and studio musician. Throughout his career, he has written, arranged, and recorded original string parts for a wide range of recording projects, combining his classical training with contemporary popular music. His recording credits include work with artists such as Ben Folds, Jewel, Rodney Crowell, Amanda Shires, the Indigo Girls, Cowboy Junkies, and many others. His performance experience includes appearances at the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium, CMA Awards (Tim McGraw and Zac Brown), as well as regional, national and international touring.
Henry has also worked extensively in music education and theatrical production, teaching orchestra and designing sound for numerous theater productions. He currently serves as Technical Director for the theater at Nashville State Community College. His latest creative project, Dreams from a Honeysuckle Thicket, brings together original songs, instrumental compositions, live strings, cello, and spoken storytelling in a theatrical exploration of dreams, friendship, and the unexpected ways love can shape our lives.
About the Production
Dreams from a Honeysuckle Thicket is an original music-and-storytelling theatrical production set in the rolling hills of Tennessee, where two unlikely friends make their home in a hidden honeysuckle thicket. Brown Bag Bill dreams of finding love and building a family, while Johnny Single Sock, a Desert Storm veteran, hopes to one day hear one of his songs on the radio. Through humor, original songs, instrumental music, and a storm of unexpected proportions, their stories explore the hopes, disappointments, and dreams that shape our lives—and the friendships that help us weather them.
The live production brings this world to the stage through an intimate, theatrical presentation featuring a string ensemble gathered around a campfire, original music, spoken storytelling, and vocals. Created, composed, and performed by David Henry, the production combines live musicianship with theatrical lighting and sound to create the atmosphere of the thicket itself. At its heart, the story asks whether a life measured by dreams fulfilled is necessarily richer than one filled with friendship, kindness, and the moments we share along the way.
